As Culinary Director at The Fremont Senior Living, I approach each day with passion, not just purpose. I face new challenges, hear new stories, and find fresh reasons to feel grateful. I’m excited to share how I arrived in this role, what fuels my dedication, and what a typical day looks like in our community. My work goes beyond preparing meals—it centers on building connections, creating purpose, and making a real difference where it counts.
Becoming a Culinary Director in senior living gave me a new outlook on my career as a chef. Compared to restaurant life, the hours, workload, and team dynamics are a clear improvement. However, the true reward is the appreciation I receive from residents. After years of facing constant criticism in restaurants, it’s deeply fulfilling to cook for people who genuinely need and value each meal. That appreciation is why I return every Monday with renewed purpose.

My background in the restaurant world gave me the skills I rely on every day. Catering taught me how to plan and execute special events. Managing dining rooms sharpened my ability to handle feedback, while running busy kitchens helped me master budget control and product ordering.
What I enjoy most about working in senior living is the real gratitude from residents. Over time in the restaurant industry, it was easy to become numb to guest expectations. Here, residents often notice and comment on the extra effort behind a dish or event. Their heartfelt thanks remind me why this work matters.
Each morning, I walk through the dining rooms and talk with residents during breakfast. These simple conversations ground me and reinforce the importance of what I do.
To anyone considering a culinary career in senior living, I say this: keep the right perspective. Every kitchen comes with challenges, but in this setting, the pressure feels different. You’re cooking for people who care about you just as much as you care about them—and that changes everything.
Success, to me, means well-fed and happy residents, a calm and confident team, and being willing to jump in wherever needed—even if that means doing dishes.
At the end of the day, I feel the most pride when I’ve contributed something meaningful. Whether it’s a favorite dish, a heartfelt conversation, or a small act of comfort, I’m honored to be part of this community and to serve at your table. I’m truly honored.
