The Fremont Senior Living Celebrates National Nurses Week

Category: Senior Living

Author: Christi Kay Loche, Executive Director

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week (May 6-12) each year. The nursing profession has been supported and promoted by the American Nurses Association (ANA) since 1896.

Our Director of Wellness is Melanie Finefield. I love her spunkiness, confidence, knowledge, and positivity. She is not afraid to engage with the staff, assist on the floor, or with training. New to the position, the residents find her very friendly, confident, and knowledgeable.

The wellness team is so caring and dedicated to our residents. They all work hard and together, stepping up during this time of struggle with staffing. They have been through so much the last two years and have pushed through, being here for our residents no matter what they had to give up.

The wellness team also stepped up to support the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. They performed wherever needed and all departments worked so well together and built a new respect for each other within different departments. The staff gave everything they had to make sure our residents were happy and not lonely at such a terrible time.

I’m so proud of the team at The Fremont. We have a great group of staff, and I couldn’t feel more privileged to work alongside all of them. A resident nurse at the community gives the following advice, “Have an open mind and be a lifelong learner. There will always be new skills to learn. Nursing opens doors to many different lines of service. Continue to be yourself and always try to remember that the job would not be possible without your line staff. Be the nurse that isn’t afraid to jump in and help.”

We are you recognizing our nurses at The Fremont Senior Living Springfield, MO during National Nurses Week by doing something daily for them, including creative follow ups of their favorite things.
