January 6, 2023
Every year Arrow’s personal and professional development coach, Michael Buckley, asks everyone to pick a “Word of the Year.” The goal is to look inward and consider what we each need more of and what might improve our lives. Sometimes we need more focus or clarity. Sometimes we need more compassion. Sometimes we just need more fun!
Picking a word for both me and my community is a commitment to doing work on yourself and the “we” and “us” work we want to do as a community.
Looking back on 2022, we were able to stabilize staffing. Many of us have been here for about six months and our goal has been to eliminate agency and find team members that fit in well with our Fremont family. Our focus has been quality interviews and overall commitment to training and communication. This has been the key to our success.
Now, looking forward to 2023, what The Fremont Senior Living needs is growth. That would allow us to advance forward after a year of perseverance. Our roots are strong, and the branches of our tree will continue to stretch across multiple areas of the community.
We plan to weave growth into daily operations of the community through our town hall meetings and empower our residents and staff as ambassadors of growth throughout the community. We will be including our team members in the annual Acts of Service Board, as an example of how this will look moving forward. Under the new leadership of the Resident Services Director, our independent living residents will be encouraged to take an active role, not only in the growth of the Fremont community, but how we can incorporate the outside community of Springfield to be part of our day-to-day life.
As for myself, my personal word for 2023 is healing. 2022 was a year of personal loss and professional growth.
What is YOUR WORD? I hope you will pick one too. What does your life need a little more of in 2023? What does “future you” thank you for working on now? Our words are meant to inspire us. If it is not inspiring, it’s not the right word.
And if you are reading this, please hold us accountable. When you visit The Fremont Senior Living or come to town hall, ask us what our word of the year is and what have we done to support it.
Please look forward to the December 2023 blog where we tell you all the ways we lived in line with our word of the year and all the ways it helped improve our community.
