My Words to Live By

Category: Senior Living

Author: Billy House-Henry, Regional Wellness Coordinator

Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a meaningful word that guides my personal and professional focus. As the Arrow Regional Wellness Coordinator and supporting Executive Director at The Fremont Senior Living in Springfield, Missouri, the start of a new year feels like the ideal time to reset, refocus, and prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead. My chosen word serves as an anchor, shaping how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am amazed at how much my Word of the Year has influenced my journey.

2024: A Year of Grace

The Word of the Year for 2024 was grace. This word guided my decisions, strengthened my relationships, and supported personal growth throughout the year. It served as a reminder that, even during moments of difficulty or setbacks, extending grace to ourselves and others is essential. Grace encouraged patience, understanding, and forgiveness, fostering a positive and compassionate environment within the community.

This focus on grace helped me navigate challenges with a mindset of kindness and learning. It allowed me to approach situations with empathy, creating stronger connections with team members, residents, and families.

The lessons from grace have shaped my perspective as I step into 2025. They taught me to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and to approach every situation with compassion and understanding.

2025: Embracing Abundance

For 2025, my Word of the Year is abundance. This word represents a focus on embracing opportunities, fostering growth, and cultivating positivity in every aspect of life. Abundance encourages me to look beyond limitations and focus on the potential for success and fulfillment.

With this mindset, I aim to inspire growth within the community, deepen relationships, and create meaningful moments for residents and families. Abundance will guide my actions as I continue to build on the foundation of grace established in 2024.

As 2025 approaches, I reflect on the lessons of 2024 and prepare for the opportunities ahead. Choosing a Word of the Year isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about setting an intention and remaining open to the journey it inspires.
